Developments in road transport law
Roads play a major role in economic activity and are a vital part of infrastructure-building and trade. In order to increase journey time reliability and congestion, roadworks and collisions must be minimized and traffic management improved. These concerns must also be balanced with the environmental impact of road building and traffic.
The contribution of road transport to greenhouse gases, air pollution and its negative impact on the immediate environment must be reduced. The dominance of car use for all journey purposes also needs to be addressed. Good-quality bus services are in part dependent on road networks and the use of priority and other management schemes to maximize effectiveness. Networks must also be compatible with and accommodate increased cycling and walking routes. Road pricing continues to be a challenging political issue.
