Pawel is a Competition, Trade and Foreign Investment associate helping clients navigate complex merger control, foreign investment and behavioral matters.

As an Associate on our Competition, Trade and Foreign Investment, Pawel advises on the full spectrum of competition law matters, including merger control issues; the application of foreign investment regimes; behavioral competition work, such as investigations and competition compliance; as well as competition litigation.

He has acted on some of the largest and most complex UK merger control cases of recent years and has helped clients like you from a range of sectors, including diversified industrials, financial services, food and drinks, and energy.

Pawel supplements his competition law knowledge with previous experience of working in legal divisions of the European Investment Bank, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, and has also worked in-house for a large manufacturer in the food and drink sector.

Outside of advising clients, he is a co-author of our comparative guide on foreign investment controls and has inputted into a number of government consultations on merger control and foreign investment.  

Merger control

  • advising a large sports retailer on the CMA’s Phase 2 investigation into its acquisition by a competitor
  • assisting a multinational consumer credit reporting company on multiple merger control matters, including a Phase 2 CMA investigation and filings to the European Commission
  • helping an international business process outsourcing and professional services company with the disposal of its emergency services division to a competitor, in a complex CMA Phase 1 investigation
  • acting for various subsidiaries of one of the largest multinational conglomerate companies in relation to various disposals and acquisitions, achieving clearance in Spain and Israel, among others
  • advising a global merchant and processor of agricultural goods on the disposal of its metals division achieving clearance in China, the USA, Bulgaria, South Korea, Turkey and Zambia

Competition litigation

  • representing a number of private and public sector clients in respect of Multilateral Interchange Fee follow-on damages claims against Visa and Mastercard, including in Competition Appeal Tribunal proceedings

Competition investigations

  • providing strategic advice to a leading UK card acquirer in respect of the Payment Systems Regulator’s market review into the supply of card acquiring services
  • acting for a diversified global insurer in relation to cartel investigations by the European Commission, Brazil’s CADE (Conselho Administrativo de Defesa Econômica) and the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore 

Foreign Direct Investment

  • advising on FDI risks in relation to a Chinese state-owned company's investment into multiple UK renewable energy projects
  • assisting a multinational conglomerate company on UK FDI aspects of its disposal of multiple European-based subsidiaries

Team award: Winners of Global Competition Review award for behavioral matter of the year (Europe 2017). This was for the creative, strategic and innovative work carried out in a non-merger matter before an enforcer in Europe.
