Charmian is a Pensions Partner in our Employment, Labor and Pensions Group in Manchester.
She advises employers and trustees on all pensions issues. She is also on the International Benefits Group.
She has over 20 years' experience advising employers and trustees on a diverse range of pension issues.
Charmian is also a key partner in the multi-jurisdictional Eversheds Sutherland International Benefits Group.
She is a key organizer of the annual International Pensions Promises Course (a unique offering in the market) and often speaks on international issues such as global mobility. Charmian regularly works with multinational organizations and overseas colleagues where clients require advice in non-UK jurisdictions and regularly advises on the pensions implications of corporate transactions involving both UK and overseas jurisdictions.
Charmian is involved with Eversheds Sutherland's pro-bono work with Amicus to help secure equal access to justice for those facing the death penalty.
Charmian's recent experience includes advising trustees and employers regarding:
- various de-risking/deficit-reduction exercises (including buy-ins and buy-outs)
- managing employer debts (including flexible apportionment arrangements)

- member complaints regarding historic transfers out of a DB scheme to suspected pensions liberation vehicles
- compliance with data subject access requests
- compliance with new statutory transfer requirements
- trustee training on the Pension Schemes Act 2021 and cyber risk
- multi-jurisdictional corporate transactions
- the pensions implications of a virtual secondment to another jurisdiction
