Karen is a senior associate in our Banking and Finance group based in our Hong Kong office.
Her area of practice focuses on advising international and local financial institutions, investors and corporations on a broad range of general banking and finance matters, including acquisition and leveraged finance, real estate finance, bilateral and syndicated lending, onshore and offshore finance, and project and structured finance.
Karen has also extensive experience in advising banks, real estate developers and funds in the Greater China and Asia Pacific region in various real estate financing projects involving land acquisition, construction, development and redevelopment of high-value residential, commercial and industrial buildings in Hong Kong and the UK.
Karen has completed her secondments at Standard Chartered Bank’s Corporate Finance Legal Department in Hong Kong overseeing the Leveraged & Structured Solutions, Loan Syndication and M&A Advisory teams in the Greater China & North Asia region. Karen also has secondment experiences at Hang Seng Bank’s Legal Department responsible for various business units within the Commercial Banking and Global Banking divisions.
Karen’s recent experience includes advising:
- a leading international bank as sole green structuring bank on a term loan facility to a Hong Kong-based real estate developer and investor for the acquisition and redevelopment of a premium residential development in Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, which is among the first real estate green loans in Hong Kong
- various leading international and local financial institutions as sustainability advisor on the conversion of various construction facilities into sustainability-linked loan facilities
- one of the largest real estate developers in the PRC and its group companies as borrowers on the financing of property development projects in various provinces of the PRC and in Hong Kong granted by syndicates of banks
- an Asia-based independent real estate investment fund and its group companies on various loan facilities from leading Singapore banks for the financing of the acquisition of various commercial and industrial properties in Hong Kong
- a leading regional bank on a series of acquisition financing transactions for certain family offices and joint ventures to finance or refinance the acquisition of properties located in Central London and for other investment purposes
- a leading international bank and an international infrastructure development and finance organisation on its facilities to a Bangladeshi developer of the 28MW Teknaf Solartech, the first utility-scale & grid-connected solar project in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh
(Awarded “Asia-Pacific Solar Deal of the Year” at the Infrastructure Journal 2019 Asia-Pacific Awards, “Best Bangladesh Deal” at the FinanceAsia Awards 2018 and “Solar Power Project of the Year – Bangladesh” at the Asia Power Awards 2018) - a consortium of banks on the syndicated lending to a major PRC film entertainment and production company which included credit support and share and asset security across 20 obligors in multiple jurisdictions
- a leading international bank on the financing of the acquisition of shares of a global digital cinema solutions provider based in Asia and a syndicated lending to a major PRC film entertainment and production company involving cross-border elements.
