Testimonials: ‘Jonas Löttiger provide quality services and professionalism.’

Jonas focuses on complex Swedish and international litigation and arbitration, regulatory issues in the financial sector and international commercial law. He has experience of many commercial court cases before Swedish Courts, often relating to awards in investor treaty arbitrations and other east-west arbitrations, and enforcement actions against states raising objections of state immunity. He has experience of many international arbitration cases as counsel, with a particular focus on east-west trade and complex construction and infrastructure disputes.

He has experience of complex and high-profile cases, which have attracted considerable publicity. Jonas acted for one of the defendants in the “HQ litigation” regarding claims amounting to approx. SEK 5,8 billion, which after more than seven years were rejected by the District Court (except for a very small amount).

For a period of approx. 20 years Jonas represented German businessman Franz Sedelmayer in his successful efforts to enforce an arbitral award and Swedish court judgments against the Russian Federation (in which case the Russian Federation have referred to state and diplomatic immunity and which case led to diplomatic “tension” on the highest level between Sweden and Russia). First in defence of annulment proceedings brought by the Russian Federation against the international investment treaty award under the German Soviet BIT during approx. 1 January 1999 until 31 December 2005. As well as secondly in enforcement proceedings to enforce cost decisions against the Russian Federation and the investment treaty award between approx. January 2003 and 1 January 2018. This involved a multitude of court cases, including decisions by the Supreme Court in 2011 involving issues of public international law and state and diplomatic immunity and security measures in support of the enforcement of the arbitral award awaiting enforcement. Finally, thirdly the representation of Franz Sedelmayer involved the forced sale of real estate in Lidingö, Sweden. Further, for a period of more than 10 years Jonas Löttiger acted for the Swedish State in a dispute with a Sami village regarding indigenous land rights (exclusive hunting and fishing), which was decided by the Supreme Court on 23 of January 2020.
