Georgina Rankin

Georgina is a Partner in our Pension group in Birmingham. 

She has advised both corporate sponsors and trustees of occupational pension schemes for over 20 years on a wide variety of pension-related issues. 

Georgina has particular experience advising on legal documentation regarding investments by pension schemes, including discretionary investment management agreements and fiduciary management agreements and establishing and operating asset-backed funding arrangements.

Georgina has long-standing experience in advising on pension issues within the University sector – and advises a number of Universities in the proximity of the Birmingham Office.

Georgina also leads on the Pathway product with Aon – which involves the provision of pre-negotiated annuity contract terms with all the major insurers.

Georgina has also advised Trustee Boards and Corporates on interation with The Pensions Regulator regarding covenant and funding, conflicts and compliance.

Over her career, Georgina has presented multiple times at various public and client
conferences.

Georgina's recent experience includes:

  • assisting a Master Trust on its continued authorization with the Pensions Regulator
  • acting trustee side on multiple buy-in's using the Pathway product
  • advising on liability management tools such as PIEs and ETVs,
  • advising trustee boards and corporates on consolidation of pension schemes including pension scheme mergers
  • providing transactional pension support to corporate clients
  • advising on closure to defined benefit accrual and transfer of DC benefits to Master Trust Providers
  • advising a large plc on the splitting out of its  Business and the consolidation of its UK pension schemes
  • advising multiple clients on investment documentation including fiduciary management agreements and compliance with the CMA requirements
  • establishing and operating asset-backed funding arrangements
  • advising on interaction with The Pensions Regulator in respect of Trustee Boards and Corporates regarding issues such as funding, compliance, conflicts and moral hazard powers
  • Sweet and Maxwell book - Law and Regulation of Investment Management (pensions chapter)
  • Ranked in Chambers and Partners in Tier 2 and noted for her prowess in investment matters and praised for having the ability “to get to the nub of the issue very quickly.”
