Having focused heavily on employment law since the beginning of her career in global law firms, Merle studied for a master’s degree in International Law at the University of Glasgow. After returning to Germany in September 2013, she joined Eversheds Sutherland in the international employment law department in the Hamburg office. As a certified specialist in employment law (“Fachanwältin für Arbeitsrecht”), she advises German and international companies in all areas of individual and collective employment law.
Merle’s areas of expertise focusses on areas of New Work, including mobile work, digitalisation, and working time (recording) isses. In this area, Merle advises pragmatically on the legal background, helps to find the solution that works for your business, and leads the required works council negotiations. Her work further includes employment protection and other lawsuits, as well as support in corporate restructurings and transactions, including transfers of undertakings and major redundancies.
Merle’s recent experience includes:
- a number of high-profile senior management exits including according legal proceedings
- restructuring negotiations with works councils including mass redundancies
- advice on and works council negotiations regarding working time recording and mobile work
- a number of cases arising from the standardization of employment conditions after a merger of five companies.
