Grant Williams

Grant is a partner in our Commercial group at the Melrose Arch office. He focuses on commercial law with an emphasis on media, telecommunications and IT.

Grant’s recent experience includes assisting with the establishment and/or acquisition of companies in the Middle East and Africa region; negotiating various global value added reseller agreements with international vendors; negotiating ICT outsource deals for clients with blue chip companies in South Africa and internationally (including one of the major insurance and financial services groups); and negotiating various contracts for the provision of ICT products and services for South African and international airports.

Grant is also an expert in local and global outsourcing.

Grant’s recent experience includes :

  • Successfully negotiated the FIDIC Contract between our client and NTT GDC , and have continued to assist the client with the negotiation of multiple contracts (also FIDIC based) for the supply, installation and commissioning of equipment for the fit-out of the data centre. The completion of this data centre will enable NTT GDC to consolidate a number of smaller, leased data centres, into one owned data centre.
  • We assisted the client with the review of the initial tender documents, and updating client’s tender response for the BAFO (best-and-final-offer) process. We have further been involved in the negotiation of the master services agreement on behalf of client.
  • Advising clients on leasing agreements for telecoms towers and masts, with both the landlords and the telco providers.
  • Grant was recognized as one of the leading TMT lawyers by Chambers and Partners.
  • Grant is part of the team that was awarded TMT Team of the year by the African Legal Awards in 2022.
  • Grant Williams was recognized by Business Today as one of the Top 10 Most Influential IT & Telecommunications Lawyers in South Africa for 2023.

Grant holds a BCom (Law) and LLB degree and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in August 1999.
