Tim is a Partner on Eversheds Sutherland's EHS (Environment Health and Safety) team.
He focuses on the defense of criminal regulatory matters, including fatalities and corporate manslaughter, health and safety issues, Coroner's Inquests, environmental law, process safety and traffic commissioner cases. He also leads on safety compliance and resilience matters.
His environmental experience includes defense of pollution and waste offenses, challenges to and appeals against statutory notices, packaging waste and nuisance claims. Tim has advised Waste and Chemical sector clients on the preparation and submission of Appeals against a breach or refusal of an Environmental Permit, and on the impact of European legislation on their businesses.
Tim has extensive experience in all areas of regulatory law and criminal procedure in the Magistrates', Crown and Coroners Courts, as well as crisis management, regulatory compliance, investigation and enforcement. He holds an OPITO Certificate in Offshore safety. He is also a Solicitor Advocate with rights of audience in the Higher Criminal Courts.
Tim's recent experience includes:
- acting for various oil and gas and chemical sector clients regarding safety incidents or Competent Authority investigations
- acting for an international offshore company regarding the safe evacuation of a major North Sea gas rig
- acting for an international chemical company following a significant explosion at their plant
- acting for a pharmaceutical company following a fatal incident at their manufacturing plant
- acting for a national energy company after an offshore helicopter crash involving seven fatalities
