EVERSHEDS INTERNATIONAL LAW FIRM OF THE YEAR IN AFRICA:

Eversheds was named “International Law Firm of the Year” and also received the “litigation and dispute resolution team” award, in front of an elite audience composed of the African legal community, during the African legal Awards which took place the 1st November 2014 in Johannesburg.

OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE NEW OHADA LAWYER MASTER DEGREE :

The opening ceremony and launch of the OHADA lawyer Master degree, Interuniversity diploma between Panthéon Assas-Paris 13 supported by Eversheds and Henri Capitant association, and also the first degree aiming at training OHADA law specialists, officially took place on 24 October 2014, at Eversheds Paris offices.

The first promotion comprises 26 students who attended speeches given by Boris Martor, Partner at Eversheds and expert in OHADA law, and of professor Goré and professor Grimaldi, who presented the outlook of this first OHADA diploma in Europe, especially dedicated to the applicable laws in the OHADA zone.

INTEGRATION OF NEW EALI MEMBERS :

Since the inauguration of the EALI in October 2013 its network of practices has continued to grow throughout the African continent, offering to its members, a solid network and a true reflexion on best practices of quality legal services.

Numerous practices partnered with the EALI and recently, five new well-known practices joined the EALI. They are;

  • HK-Jurifisc - Antananarivo - Madagascar 
  • Benslimane Avocats – Alger - Algérie 
  • Katende, Ssempebwa & Co. Advocates – Kampala – Ouganda 
  • Alevina & Partners – Libreville – Gabon 
  • Sagnon Zagre – Ouagadougou – Burkina Faso

EALI now comprises 37 firms in 35 African countries and 43 offices in Africa.

SECOND EALI SUMMIT AT JOHANNESBURG:

As part of the strengthening of the activities of the EALI, Eversheds held the second EALI summit in Johannesburg on 31 October 2014. The objective was to maintain the dynamics initially launched since EALI launch in October 2013, and to exchange on knowledge, various legal subjects and opportunities for our clients.

EALI ANNUAL REPORT:

On 31 October, EALI released its annual report describing EALI actions over the last year as well as the Pan African legal actions supported by our members for the legal community.

The establishment of this knowledge based network and legal partnerships with African firms enables us to provide quality legal service for clients and investors and to relay opportunities and information within the network and to our joint clients.

EALI COUNTRY GUIDE:

Eversheds, in association with EALI member firms, published a legal guide to EALI, describing Member States and the laws in force in each country.

This legal guide provides a description of the legislation in force in Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Republic of Comoros, Ivory Coast , Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius Islands , Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia, Zimbabwe.

MOROCCAN GUIDE :

Jawad Fassi-Fehri, Senior Associate, member of the Bar Association and member of the Eversheds Africa Group both in Paris, has published in December 2014 the first legal Guide on investment capital in Morocco published by LexisNexis editions.

This book proposes a comparative study of the French and Moroccan laws, with references to the accessible Moroccan case law on the referred subject.
