European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 obtains Royal Assent

  • United Kingdom
  • Brexit
  • Commercial agreements

The flagship legislation that will repeal the European Communities Act 1972 and provide the framework for converting EU law into UK law has now become law. This means that the Government can start to use the powers in this Act to prepare the UK statute book for the UK’s exit from the EU. The Government says work on this will begin in the coming weeks as Government departments start to lay the relevant secondary legislation in Parliament. The Government’s press release states that “In total, it’s expected that around 800 pieces of secondary legislation will be needed.”
