Energy transition in Sicily: Eversheds Sutherland attends Energy Day in Italy

Energy and Infrastructure senior associate, Charlie Wright, and associate, Christian Prencipe, presented at the Energy Day conference held in Sicily, Italy earlier this month. The event was attended by more than 50 delegates, including developers, funders advisors and energy traders. The event covered a wide range of topics with the main focus being the energy transition in Italy, Sicily in particular, and how solar PV and wind can play their part.

Charlie and Christian spoke on how to project finance grid parity solar PV and wind projects in Italy, with a break out session on certain key issues debt funders look at when determining whether a project is bankable or not. As Italy, like many other EU countries, looks to put in place energy policies to ensure the EU 2030 clean energy targets are met, grid parity projects are clearly going to play an important part in helping such countries achieve those targets.

The event touched on a number of other interesting areas of the energy transition, from electric vehicles (EVs), to how to finance grid infrastructure (through grid costs and private sector financing), to increasing awareness of the end consumer.

The Energy and Infrastructure team are excited to play their part in the next chapter in the energy transition. Charlie commented: “We are at athe next turning point in the energy transition in a number of jurisdictions in Europe and MENA”.

Event organiser, Guido Sciuto of Ambiens S.r.l., commented: “We are proud to be part of the energy transition in Sicily and South Italy. This event and the setting up of the Solar PV Association continue to help promote renewables and their deployment in Southern Italy which is fundamental in the transition to a low carbon, or we hope, a zero carbon economy in Southern Italy.
