  • United Kingdom
  • Energy and infrastructure

The Oil & Gas Authority has launched the 31st Offshore Licensing Round, offering a total of 1,766 blocks (370,000km2) of open acreage in frontier areas of the UK Continental Shelf.

The frontier areas include blocks across the West of Shetland, the East Shetland Platform, and the Mid North Sea High, as well as South West Britain and parts of the English Channel.

The licensing round is supported by government funded exploration data packs and reports, including 80,000km of seismic data.

Applications for licences will be accepted up to 14:00 on 7 November 2018, with decisions expected to be made in early 2019.

Following the level of interest in the 30th Offshore Licensing Round, companies are also being provided with the opportunity to nominate additional blocks in mature areas for possible inclusion in this licensing round.

Block nominations should be made in writing by 16:00 on 18 July 2018, include details of a substantial firm work programme, and include reasons why the nominated blocks should be included in the 31st Offshore Licensing Round.

If you are considering making a first application to explore on the UK Continental Shelf as part of the 31st Offshore Licensing Round, or if you are interested in pursuing a joint bidding agreement with one or more co venturers, please get in contact with a member of our oil and gas team.
