The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, launched a second call for applications for state aid within the COVID – Culture program.

The program supports performers and professional technical professions in the field of culture, as well as entities doing business in the field of culture, for wasted expenses incurred in connection with the organization of events and continuous activities in the field of culture from 10 March 2020 to 31 December 2020 that have been limited, postponed or cancelled in direct connection with emergency government measures.

Applications for subsidies can be submitted from 21 October 2020 to 21 January 2021.

Who can apply for a subsidy?

The COVID – Culture program is focused on entities who are organizing, mediating or providing cultural events (realization of cultural services to the public for the purpose of watching a live artistic performance) or performing continuous activity in the field of culture (operation of theatres, music clubs, art management agencies, cultural centres, etc.).

Subsidies are intended for two groups of applicants

a) business entities whose main business is organization of musical, musically-dramatic, dance and/or theatre programs, aiming to provide cultural services to the public in the field of Performing Arts, i.e. individual artists, organizers of music, art, theatre, dance festivals and performances, theatres, music clubs, artistic ensembles, technical companies arranging cultural events, galleries, museums, etc., and

b) self-employed applicants in artistic professions in the field of music, theatre, dance, i.e. performing artists (actors, musicians, dancers, singers, acrobats, professional performers, etc.) and professional artistic and technical professions (artistic sound engineers, light designers, etc.)

Form and amount of the subsidy

  • business entities organizing cultural events (applicants sub. a) above) are provided with an ex post subsidy for wasted expenses for individual cultural events or projects that arose from 1 October 2019 to 20 November 2020, and for expenses within the performed continuous activities in the field of culture in the period from 1 March 2020 to 20 November 2020, in the amount of

- up to 50% of eligible expenditure for postponed or cancelled cultural events, and

- up to 80% of eligible expenditure for continuously developed activities in the field of culture

- up to a total maximum amount of CZK 10 million per entity

  • self-employed applicants in artistic professions in the field of music, theatre, dance (applicants sub. b) above) are provided with a one-off contribution of CZK 60,000

Form and components of the application

  • the application is submitted electronically via an information system accessible from the AIS MPO Portal. It is necessary to register in advance in the system and log in via eIdentita (electronic identity application)
  • each entity may submit only one application for a subsidy for wasted expenses and one application for a one-off subsidy for the self-employed applicants. Expenditure already claimed under the first call of the COVID – Culture program or another subsidy program cannot be claimed
  • all necessary documents and affidavits that need to be submitted with the application are available in the information system of the Ministry of Industry and Trade
  • all the requisites and mandatory components of the applications are listed in Call 2 for the COVID – Culture program, which is available at this link

Covid-Culture Subsidy Program schedule

  • submission of applications for subsidies for wasted expenses: from 22 October 2020 to 23 November 2020
  • submission of applications for a one-off subsidy for the self-employed applicants: from 23 October 2020 to 24 November 2020
  • end of the subsidy provision: 31 December 2020
