The COVID-19 (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2020 (the “COVID-19 Act 2020”) was passed in the Mauritian Assembly on 15 May 2020 and gazetted in the Government Gazette of Mauritius No. 57 of 16 May 2020. The COVID-19 Act amends a number of enactments to cater for the impact of COVID-19 for matters connected, consequential or related thereto and impacts on the way that business will be done therefrom. Different operational dates apply to each amended enactment.
The major changes brought about to different enactments and sectors though the COVID-19 Act 2020 are the following:
- Employment;
- Banking;
- Income Tax;
- Corporate;
- Insolvency;
- Customs;
- Environment Protection;
- Tourism;
- Landlord and Tenant; and
- some Miscellaneous provisions.
