Hong Kong plans Paternity Leave
- China
- Employment law - HR E-Brief
03-06-2013
Statutory paternity leave is likely to be introduced in Hong Kong this year. The Hong Kong Government has proposed that new fathers with 40 weeks’ continuous employment with the same employer should be entitled to 3 days’ paternity leave when the child is born, paid at 80% of their average daily wage. The Labour Advisory Board has confirmed its support for the proposal and, earlier this year, the Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying called for enactment of the legislation as soon as possible, although the timing of any enactment has yet to be confirmed by the Government.
