The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) has recently published a Consultation Paper on a proposed Direction to the System Operators related to Data Centre grid connection.

CRU proposes to direct that EirGrid and ESBN use criteria to assess which data centre applications should be prioritised. This criteria includes:

  • whether the applicant is located within a constrained or unconstrained region,
  • the applicant’s ability to provide dispatchable generation, and
  • the applicant’s ability to provide flexibility in their demand by reducing consumption when requested to do so by the TSO in times of system constraint.

The closing date for submissions is 7 July 2021, which should be emailed to electricityinterconnectors@cru.ie.

The consultation can be found here.
