We were pleased to host a webinar with OUTLaw Network on Wednesday 17 June on the topic of “Alieni juris – an Outlaw: The Law and Intersex People”.
Dr Tanya Ni Mhuirthile, Assistant Professor in Law at DCU, spoke to us about the interaction between the Intersex community and the law.
She also introduced us to the Irish Research Council funded research project “Mapping the Lived Experience of Intersex in Ireland” for which she is the Principal Investigator. This project will interview Irish intersex people about their lives, as well as their families, and the medical professionals who treat them and will map this experience onto Ireland’s legal obligations to identify the strengths and weaknesses in protections for this marginalised and vulnerable community.
