The employers’ representatives believe that Latvia has higher requirements in comparison with its neighbour countries, but trade unions refuse to give in. Discussions between the employers’ and employees’ organisations have billowed high at the responsible Parliamentary committee. The MPs are facing a hard choice – to support employers and give the cold shoulder to employees – the potential electorate, or to take the entrepreneurs’ side and lose the prospective supporters at the general election this autumn. There is also a possibility that the Parliament could vote in relation to the final wording of the Labour Law after the general election in October.
