An experienced Education legal team

Our recent work in the UK includes:

  • advising the Medical Research Council (MRC) on the transfer of four of its intramural research units to their partner universities as part of the MRC’s expanding university units programme
  • advising on the procurement of a new multi-million pound student accommodation development, which provided 600 units together with associated facilities
  • advising a university client on a new financing loan arrangement provided by a syndicate of banks; the £150m loan was provided to help the university with its continued growth and development
  • acting for the Association of Colleges in a successful judicial review challenge to the Department for Education (DfE)’s decision to approve a new sixth form, which concluded with the withdrawal of the sixth form application and also an agreement that the DfE would review its guidance on new sixth form approvals
  • providing strategic advice in relation to complex industrial relations issues, ranging from recognition and collective agreements, through to collective disputes, industrial unrest and industrial action and alternative consultation forums

Our recent work in the U.S. includes:

  • representing the states of New York, Florida, Minnesota, North Dakota, Georgia and Missouri in high profile constitutional litigation challenging the states’ K-12 public school funding systems
  • serving as outside general counsel to large metropolitan public school districts, and as special counsel to many others
  • representing numerous states and school districts in school desegregation and civil rights litigation
  • providing general counsel to several private and charter elementary and secondary schools
