Digital infrastructure lawyers
Our world today is undeniably digital. Disruptive technologies are developing at pace and resulting in an increasing demand for connectivity globally. This demand for connectivity is dependent on the digital infrastructure being in place, and maintained, to support the evolving ecosystem.
Experienced Data Center, Telecommunications and Infrastructure lawyers
Our global Digital Infrastructure team has extensive experience of advising telecommunications services providers, data businesses, national governments, regulators and infrastructure projects around the globe.
We provide a distinct blend of specialist legal advice and industry knowledge, which has evolved in line with the industry’s needs, covering the full spectrum of legal disciplines across the three key verticals – networks & connectivity, data centers and towers & sites.
Data centers
The legal challenges facing data centers are unique. Our team of 100+ advisors are fully immersed in the sector, not only understanding the legal issues but also having a deep understanding of the data center market. With extensive expertise in working with developers, operators, hyperscalers and other enterprise end-users and energy and connectivity service providers, we have a full service global offering.
Experience highlights include:
- advising a global hyperscale technology business on more than 70 wholesale colocation leases and service agreements with a variety of data centre developer/operators equating to an aggregate capacity of more than 300MW in 22 different jurisdictions
- acting for Vantage Data Centers on a plethora of data centre development projects across EMEA, including the acquisition of full ownership of its flagship EU data centre in Offenbach)
- advising CyrusOne on the European aspects of its agreement to be acquired by KKR and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) in a $15bn all-cash transaction, and advised on the European aspects of their acquisition of Zenium Data Centers, for US$442m, comprising a mix of 6 operational data centers and development sites in London and Frankfurt
Networks & connectivity
As the demands for connectivity continue to increase at speed we are reliant on the networks and infrastructure being in place to enable this connectivity including wireless, fibre optic and sub-sea cables. As these evolve so too do the regulatory regimes, and concerns around cybersecurity and national security have also heightened.
We are one of only a handful of law firms with in-depth experience in telecommunications, with major U.S., UK and international telecommunications practices and specialist lawyers in subsea and interconnectivity.
Experience highlights include:
- advising Eutelsat, one of the world’s leading satellite operators, on its on its $550m investment in OneWeb
- advising on the establishment of a joint venture between a European satellite operator and a towers business on a satellite to fibre (terrestrial and subsea) network
- Cinturion on the Trans-Europe Asia System (TEAS), the fibre network combining terrestrial and undersea elements to connect India, Middle East and Europe
Towers & sites
The increase in network traffic and data usage and subsequent challenges around coverage, bandwidth and latency has resulted in a surge in the installation of telecoms towers and masts globally. Legislation is also evolving to tackle increasing environmental and ESG concerns surrounding the industry.
Experience highlights include:
- advising a leading mobile phone mast site investment firm in relation to their contentious work regarding the Electronic Communications Code and which regulations to adhere to for the installation and use of all telecommunications apparatus in the UK
- advising an infrastructure investment company on the acquisition of a portfolio of mast sites from a communications operator in the UK and also Spain
- advising Telefónica UK Limited - in relation to the management of its mature cell site portfolio
