Eversheds Sutherland in conjunction with Microsoft have co-authored a series of whitepapers on the application of cloud services to key industry sectors. These white papers include specific focus on laws and regulations in the European Union, US, Russia, China, Kenya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, India and can be used to start a dialogue with lawmakers and regulators in these territories.
Cybersecurity – in the Financial Services sector
The biggest change to the cyberthreat environment for the financial services sector is not only the increase in the scale, frequency and sophistication of attacks, but also the identity of the actors and their objectives. The traditional perception is that hackers are maladjusted teenagers, “hacktivists” or organized crime syndicates. What is ultimately required to protect against cyber threats (and ensure greater resiliency) is a proactive, holistic, risk-based approach.

Data Sovereignty – the Oil & Gas perspective
When it comes to data, globalization may no longer be the buzzword in many corporate boardrooms. Companies are increasingly running up against legal barriers to the free flow and aggregation of data as countries continue to pass so-called data sovereignty laws.

Data Sovereignty & the Cloud – a Healthcare perspective
Embracing the digital revolution holds out great promise for the healthcare sector and those who rely upon it, but healthcare organizations (HCOs) are also facing significant challenges to their transformation, including by so-called data sovereignty laws. These laws are varied, but they generally tend to dictate where and how data can be stored and processed, and thereby tend to restrict the vital free flow and aggregation of data that HCOs require.

Cybersecurity – for the Healthcare sector
Cybersecurity is increasingly not just about protecting private data, but systems themselves—and no sector is immune from a crippling cyber-attack, especially the healthcare sector. In May 2017 health care providers in the United Kingdom were caught up in a massive international ransomware attack dubbed WannaCry. The attackers encrypted critical data—rendering it illegible—and demanded ransom to restore access to the data.

Cybersecurity – for the Oil & Gas sector
For over 30 years, the international oil and gas industry has been targeted by cyber-attacks — and the attacks are only getting more frequent, more sophisticated, and more aggressive. The world has become increasingly reliant on technology, attackers have become more capable, and geo-political tensions have risen. The devastating cyber-attacks on oil and gas companies in the Middle East in 2012 and again in 2016/7, the attacks on the Ukrainian power grids in 2015 and 2017, and the discovery of the foreign-implanted malware in the US critical infrastructure sector, has highlighted this increasing risk.
