Energy and infrastructure
Businesses in the energy and infrastructure sector are under pressure to manage costs robustly, yet still deliver projects effectively, to a good quality and within set timescales. We work closely with our clients using our breadth of proficiency to help our clients achieve these goals at all stages of the project. We work with our clients to help them avoid disputes; but if disputes do arise, we have the skills and strategic knowledge to resolve them successfully.
The Eversheds Sutherland's energy & Infrastructure construction team advises clients across the entire ecosystem: from offshore wind farms, to sewage facilities; from LNG terminals to nuclear stations. Over the years we have acquire particular strength in the following areas:
Power generation & energy transmission
We advise clients on the engineering’s, procurement and construction of power generation assets including CHP, CCGT, Clean energy technologies (onshore and offshore wind, solar PV and CSP, Waste to Energy, Tidal, Hydro and Bio Fuels) and Nuclear Power. Our team also advises on the Carbon Capture Transport and Storage for fossil fuel power plants.
On the transmission and distribution of power, our team advises many of the organisations responsible for maintaining, building and upgrading the critical infrastructure for this purpose. We are currently advising on the construction and procurement of one of the most strategic interconnectors in Europe.
Oil & gas
We advise clients on upstream oil & gas projects internationally, particularly on Platforms and FPSOs, Pipelines/pumping facilities (onshore/offshore), process engineering, refining and decommissioning. Our clients include both National Oil Companies and International Oil Companies.
Most recently we have prepared a bespoke suite of standard form contracts for a NOC, providing live project support to assist our clients in avoiding full-blown disputes and acting on international arbitrations against purchasers and contractors.
Water & waste
We advise clients on all aspects of water projects including water treatment and distribution as well as wastewater facilities, as well as waste projects including PFI/PPP projects, waste/sewage treatment and merchant waste facilities.
We advise at all levels of the supply chain, and act for water and waste companies, contractors, and specialist sub-contractors. Our years of experience, and deep understanding of the sector’s unique challenges help clients ensure potentially contentious legal issues are spotted early and managed appropriately.
Our team recently advised a local authority’s £3.6 billion project, with nearly £700 million of capital investment in a range of different technology facilities.
