Within the Energy & Infrastructure team, our clientele includes States and State owned entities, major multinational corporations, small and medium sized enterprises, international banks, government and regulatory bodies.

Clean energy

A selection of our recent key deals include advising:

  • GuarantCo and Standard Chartered Bank on the US$12 million and BDT280 million financing of the 28MW Technaf Solartech solar project in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, which is the first utility scale solar project in that country. The transaction was awarded “Best Bangladesh Deal” at the FinanceAsia Achievement Awards 2018 and “Solar Power Project of the Year – Bangladesh” at the Asian Power Awards 2018
  • an investment bank on its role as asset manager for a major global tech business on its long term programme of acquisitions of renewable projects in China
  • an international IPP on its acquisition of one of Asia’s largest renewable portfolios, primarily located in Thailand

Oil and gas

A selection of our recent key deals include advising:

  • the developer on an LNG project in a Southern Pacific island state
  • one of China’s largest oil & gas companies on a major long term LNG SPA with a US exporter under English and US law
  • CNPC on one of its largest investments in the Middle East, a major multi-billion dollar barrel concession project in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Infrastructure

A selection of our recent key deals include advising:

  • a Chinese SOE on its bid for the Singapore Malaysia High Speed Rail (the largest infrastructure project in Asia prior to being put on hold by the Malaysian government)
  • Darussalam Assets on the review and drafting of a S$1 billion+ co-investment with a Chinese SOE and development of the Brunei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) including its PPP programme
  • the Bangladesh PPP Authority on the IPFF Project. Our appointment followed a review of the country's PPP structure which involved us advising on a number of individual projects, including the Dhaka By-pass

Conventional power and water

A selection of our recent key deals include advising:

  • CGN on its bid for the construction and financing of the 300MW LNG Combined Cycle Plant at Kerawalapitiya, Sri Lanka. The transaction involved the proposed participation of a regionally-focused Development Bank and other prospective ECAs, with our role including the structuring and implementation of such participations and related debt financing
  • a Hong Kong-based investment holding company in relation to the acquisition of two water treatment facilities in Taiwan and China
  • a leading public utility company in Hong Kong on the testing and commissioning of a permanent aviation fuel facility at Hong Kong International Airport. This involved both the negotiation of the suite of associated contracts and advice in relation to potential disputes arising out of the termination provisions
