Gas

Despite the growing role of renewable energy, it is inevitable that gas will remain an important component of the power generation mix over the coming decades. Indeed, in markets such as Europe and Asia, gas is likely to have an increasing role as it picks up the baseload slack left by the closure of nuclear generation.

Many in the industry believe that the variable outputs of wind, solar and other sources of power mean that a flexible baseload resource such as gas improves the investment environment for renewables. This is because it allows for greater potential to meet demand-side requirements in real time by making up any shortfall in output from renewable energy sources. Coupled with the longer-term potential of carbon capture and storage methods included in new generation facilities and retrofitted to existing ones, gas will continue to play an important role for years to come.

Whatever you needs and wherever you operate, Eversheds Sutherland’s international network of lawyers are on hand to help you realize your goals in this important sector.
