Jo is a Partner in our Construction and Engineering team with over 25 years’ experience of advising on the procurement of major energy, process sector, pharmaceutical, water and other utility construction and engineering projects.

Jo is a dual qualified lawyer and a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineer’s contract drafting committee. As part of this role she has spent 3 years working as part of the contract drafting committee to develop the IChemE’s blue book; a standard form contract between the EPCM Contractor and Purchaser, which has been drafted for global EPCM projects.

Jo is a specialist in complex bespoke EPCM/EPC, multi-party contracting structures, FEED contracts, OEM contracts, alliancing, enterprise and framework agreements, working on both UK and global procurements. She also regularly works with a range of standard form contracts such as IChemE, FIDIC and NEC.

Jo’s EPCM and multi-party contracting experience includes:

  • advising a pharmaceutical company in relation to the contracts for an EPCM based project to construct a new manufacturing facility in Ireland (project value approx £300m)
  • advising a global chemicals and manufacturing group in relation to the EPCM construction, design and process contracts to procure a new major European process facility (project value approx. £300m)
  • advising the facility owner in connection with its multi-contracting procurement expansion of a LNG facility (project value approx. £300m)
  • advising a UK major chemical company in connection with its EPCM contracts for an EPCM based project (project value approx £100m)
  • advising a UK plc company in connection with its EPCM based framework agreement for its planned maintenance and upgrade works for its UK sites
  • a time-critical multi-contracting procurement in connection with an interconnector project (project value approx. £100m)

Jonathan is Head of National Construction & Engineering Group, based in London. He is a senior construction litigator specialising in large, high value and technically complex construction and infrastructure disputes (court proceedings, adjudication and arbitration).

His sector strengths include office, retail, logistics, renewables including CHP plants and offshore wind, with particular expertise in complex delay claims.

Jonathan has particular expertise in conducting (and where necessary driving) ADR in high value, multi-party disputes. He has been instrumental in settling apparently intractable disputes by proposing innovative commercial solutions involving complex settlement structures.

Gregory is a partner in our construction and engineering team and is based in our Manchester office.

He specialises in the resolution and avoidance of large-scale infrastructure, energy, chemical and general construction/engineering disputes. He has experience of mediation, adjudication, litigation, and domestic and international arbitration.

Gregory has acted for employers, funders, developers, professionals, contractors, and subcontractors across a wide range of projects. He often works with our clients' commercial delivery and construction/engineering teams on the delivery of their major projects, and has undertaken numerous "mini-secondments" to client teams for the purpose of providing day-to day strategy, and project management and administration advice.

Joseph is a partner in our construction and engineering group. He handles a broad range of construction and engineering disputes and project advisory work with particular experience of process plant, energy, water, rail and PFI.

His experience includes:

  • advising the client on a £350million+ EPCM project for a wheat to bio-ethanol plant
  • advising the contractor on various disputes arising in relation to the engineering and construction of a novel process plant
  • acting on £multi-million disputes regarding the engineering and construction of three separate Energy from Waste plants
  • acting for a main contractor claiming additional costs under a large project framework with a water utility for the design and construction of water and waste water treatment facilities

David is a Partner in our Construction and Engineering team with over 30 years’ experience (including 10 years in the construction industry, latterly as a Chartered Civil Engineer) of advising on the procurement of major energy, transport, water and other utilities construction and engineering projects.

He is a specialist in the NEC, FIDIC and MF/1 contract suites and a market leader in drafting complex bespoke EPCM, alliancing, partnering, enterprise and framework agreements, including working with UK water company Anglian Water on their award winning @one Alliance agreement. David is also a recognised leading adviser in relation to major European infrastructure projects, having advised clients on over €17 billion worth of construction contracts of international strategic importance in recent years including the Celtic Link and Viking Link subsea electricity interconnector projects.

His EPCM experience includes acting for:

  • one of the largest European gas infrastructure companies on the EPCM / construction management contracts relating to delivery of their £multi-billion RIIO2 regulated gas infrastructure programme from 2021 – 2026
  • a global construction materials group in relation to the EPCM construction, design and process contracts to procure a new major European manufacturing facility
  • a global chemicals and manufacturing group in relation to the EPCM construction, design and process contracts to procure a new major European process facility
  • a major transport company in relation to various works contracts and interface arrangements involved with their EPCM procurement of a €500M+ transport hub upgrade
  • a global food group on the procurement of EPCM design, construction and operations contracts for a new €10M+ automated food processing plant

Dominic has particular experience in transport, engineering, datacentres and logistics. He has also acted for a number of states (Bangladesh, Slovakia and Rwanda) drafting, negotiating and advising on major construction procurement and international arbitrations arising through the delivery phase.

Dominic’s experience includes

  • advising a global company on the waste water and  ground remediation strategy for a major European manufacturing facility EPCM.  Due to the speed of the solution required and the use of novel technologies, the EPCM route was the obvious approach
  • advising datacentre developers on their pan European expansion.  Maximum flexibility in this market is essential and the scale of developments and the risk profile of the contractors a move to EPCM/ construction management has bene a natural evolution
  • advising retailers on managed projects for the construction and subsequent automation fit out of fulfilment centres in the UK, Germany and US (Georgia and Kansas)
  • advising banks on development facilities for projects adopting and EPCM approach without the turnkey protection of more traditionally funded projects

Jessica is a partner in our construction and engineering group. She specialises in all forms of construction, engineering and operation disputes arising in the built environment, resources and infrastructure sectors and has experience of all forms of dispute resolution including adjudication, litigation, arbitration, expert determination and mediation.

She has particular expertise in complex PFI/PPP disputes across multiple sectors (waste, health, education, accommodation, transport and defence) acting for public sector clients, sponsors, equity investors, debt financiers, construction contractors and operators.

Peter is a transactional partner in our Construction and Engineering group. He has vast experience in advising clients in relation to the procurement of high value construction and engineering projects, with particular focus on the energy (including nuclear new build and renewable energy technologies) and commercial development sectors. Peter has recently acted on a number of major construction and engineering projects as a lead construction advisor, including

  • leading on several major contracts for two new nuclear build power station projects, including the marine tunnelling contract and numerous key equipment supply and installation contracts
  • advising on a number of interconnector projects, including the subsea and onshore cable supply and installation contracts
  • assisting on a number of major biomass conversion projects

Alison is a Partner in our Construction and Engineering Group, specialising in the energy sector.

She has extensive experience of drafting, negotiating and advising on construction contracts (including those based on NEC, FIDIC and JCT standard forms) and ancillary documents for significant construction and engineering projects.

Alison has a particular focus on the energy sector and advises on nuclear, water and gas distribution projects.

Her recent experience includes:

  • advising in connection with the development of the new nuclear power station projects at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C
  • advising water and sewerage providers in respect of the contracts for their regulated capital investment programmes and for the maintenance of their networks
  • advising on one of the first regulated project financed projects in the water sector being procured using Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC)
