We Advised in a Tender to Provide New State Lottery System

  • Poland

Lawyers from our firm advised a consortium made up of the American IT firm GTech Corporation and Warsaw-based Data Trans in a tender to provide new lottery system technology to Totalizator Sportowy Sp. z o.o., Poland’s state-owned lottery.

On 12 July 2010 Totalizator Sportowy signed a contract with GTech Corporation and the Polish IT company Data Trans. The consortium will be the new operator of lottery systems for the state-owned Totalizator Sportowy. The 7-year contract is estimated at a net value of PLN 285 million.

GTech has been Totalizator Sportowy’s online lottery technology and services provider since 1991. In 2001 it won a consecutive tender for a contract, which ends in 2011.  The management board of Totalizator Sportowy conducted a tender now in order to have time to roll out the new system.  GTech provides Totalizator Sportowy with a lottery system for serving a network of 12,000 terminals all over Poland.

There were four bidders participating in the tender for the new operator of lottery systems: the Data Trans and GTech Corporation consortium, Intralot SA from Greece, Scientific Games International GmbH from Austria, and ZPR SA from Poland.

The team of lawyers advising the winning consortium was led by Krzysztof Wierzbowski, the firm’s managing partner, and Tomasz Zalewski, head of the public procurement and intellectual property practice groups. They were supported by Henryk Romańczuk, head of the litigation and administrative law practice group.
