Eversheds scoops double award win at the African Legal Awards 2014
- United Kingdom
03-11-2014
Law firm Eversheds were named International Law Firm of the Year and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year at the African Legal Awards 2014.
The International Law Firm of the Year Award is a significant market recognition and endorsement of the firms pan-African strategy, which was announced just over a year ago on 1st October 2013.
During that time Eversheds has:
- launched the Eversheds Africa Law Institute (EALI);
- seen EALI membership grow to 38 member law firms giving the firm coverage in 36 African jurisdictions;
- consolidated its footprint in Africa by expanding to seven Eversheds offices on the continent (in Durban, Johannesburg and Mauritius and Tunis);
- grown its business in Africa by over 70%.
For this award, the firm was shortlisted against Allen & Overy, Baker & McKenzie, Norton Rose Fulbright and White and Case.
Eversheds also picked up the award for Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year for the work carried out by David Sellers and the team on an extremely complex and sensitive arbitration on behalf of South African power company Eskom.
Partner Boris Martor who heads Eversheds Africa group commented:
“The group worked hard over the last years to shape this. We have received extremely warm client endorsement and approval for our Africa strategy; in fact the response from clients and contacts has been overwhelming. We’ve been appointed by many clients who have struggled to source Pan African legal advice across the continent and were interested in receiving a unique service to support their businesses.”
The African Legal Awards took place in Johannesburg on 31 October and were hosted by Legal Week.
