    04-11-2019

Eversheds Sutherland expands its spectrum of advice in the areas of commercial criminal law and compliance with a new team member: On 01 November, Dr. David Rieks joined the Hamburg office of Eversheds Sutherland as a Counsel. He previously worked for Roxin in Hamburg. In addition to providing criminal law advice, David will in particular support the international compliance practice of Eversheds Sutherland.

David advises national and international companies on all matters of commercial criminal law, such as corruption and breach of trust, and represents them in criminal proceedings and proceedings for the imposition of administrative fines both before authorities and courts. Another major focus of his activity is to defend individuals in commercial criminal law matters. Furthermore, David advises companies on all types of compliance matters and has extensive experience in conducting internal investigations both in relation to and outside criminal law investigations.

Dr. Joos Hellert, Partner and head of the Litigation & Dispute Management practice group emphasizes: “With David Rieks, we have won an ambitious counsel for the defense in commercial criminal law who, with his expertise and personality, is an excellent addition to our compliance team. We really look forward to working with him. Our clients are facing increasingly complex risks under civil, criminal and regulatory law, both at home and abroad. With David, we will be able to add an increasingly important component to our compliance and criminal law practice.”

“Commercial criminal law and internal investigations are becoming ever more important, especially in light of the planned introduction of new and stricter sanctions for companies and increased fines”, says David. “I am pleased to support the litigation team of Eversheds Sutherland in the fields of commercial criminal law, investigations and compliance with my experience and to make my expertise available to the experienced German team - and in particular also the highly impressive international network of Eversheds Sutherland.”

With its international White-Collar-and-Investigations-Team which works together closely across practice groups and borders, Eversheds Sutherland covers the entire spectrum of compliance and criminal law advice for international companies. In coordination and cooperation with the US offices, the team also assists in the context of investigations of US authorities and public prosecutors’ offices, in particular when it comes to internal investigations.

This is already the second addition to the dispute resolution team this year after the litigator Stephan von Marschall joined the team in Hamburg from Taylor Wessing this February.
