WirtschaftsWoche: Eversheds Sutherland once again recognised as top law firm for restructuring and insolvency law – Christian Hilpert and Anne Deike Riewe particularly recommended

  • Germany

The German magazine WirtschaftsWoche has once again recognised Eversheds Sutherland as a top law firm for restructuring and insolvency law in Germany. In addition, Christian Hilpert was repeatedly recommended as one of the most renowned restructuring lawyers in Germany and Anne Deike Riewe was added to the list of the best lawyers for insolvency law.

Hilpert (Berlin/Munich), Partner and head of the German Restructuring and Insolvency practice group, provides advice in the areas of restructuring, reorganisation and insolvency law, in particular regarding cross-border matters. He represents investors, creditors and companies facing a crisis as well as insolvency administrators, in particular also regarding the sale and purchase of assets from an insolvency. Riewe, Counsel in the Munich office of Eversheds Sutherland, advises on insolvency law with the interface to corporate law as well as on contest-related and liability issues. She has special expertise in the prosecution of claims for insolvency administrators as well as in the defence and prevention of liability claims vis-à-vis managing directors and in the contesting of insolvency.

"The Corona crisis still imposes a heavy burden on the economy and will lead to economic tremors also in the future. The breakdown of global supply chains during the lockdown and the financial imbalances of many industries and companies, which partly already existed prior to the Corona crisis, lead to a constantly increasing need for operational restructuring offers and support in complex insolvency situations", Hilpert says. "Only in May of this year, we strengthened our practice with Anne Deike Riewe. The expansion of our advisory services now proves to be a large advantage for our clients in Germany."

The Restructuring and Insolvency practice group advises with respect to cross-border crisis situations and is specialised in complex restructuring solutions, preventive and out of a crisis, both in and out of court. The team advises both (groups of) creditors and investors as well as insolvency administrators, debtor companies and their executive bodies on corporate restructurings, distressed transactions and in connection with insolvency proceedings. For example, Eversheds Sutherland advised the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and a major engine manufacturer in protective shield proceedings (Schutzschirmverfahren) over the assets of Condor Flugdienst GmbH and currently supports various suppliers from the automotive sector in their restructuring and self-administration proceedings.

For the ranking of the most renowned lawyers, the Handelsblatt Research Institute (HRI) interviewed more than 1,000 lawyers from over 107 law firms about their most renowned colleagues for restructurings and insolvency law. An expert jury of representatives from Commerzbank, Oldenburgische Landesbank, von Euler Hermes, Atradius and Verlag C.H.Beck then selected 40 law firms for insolvency law, with 66 particularly recommended lawyers, and 36 law firms for insolvency law, with 48 lawyers, from this list.

In other recently published ranking lists of WirtschaftsWoche, the following Eversheds Sutherland Partners are listed: Martin Bechtold (Munich) for anti-trust law, Marco Ferme (Munich) for labour law, Joos Hellert (Munich) for compliance, Alexander Niethammer (Munich) for IT and the Counsel David Rieks (Hamburg) for commercial criminal law.
