Strategic investment in Germany: Eversheds Sutherland advises Archer Daniels Midland on acquisition of Ziegler Group

    Eversheds Sutherland has advised NYSE listed Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) group on an agreement to acquire Ziegler Group, a leading European provider of natural citrus flavor ingredients. With this acquisition ADM strategically invests in the further growth of its natural global citrus offerings.

    Founded in 1963, Ziegler produces natural high-quality citrus oils, extracts, concentrates and compounds for flavor, food, and beverage industry customers focusing on Europe, the U.S. and Japan. The company is privately held and headquartered in Aufsess, southern Germany.

    Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) is one of the world’s largest agricultural processors and food ingredient providers, with approximately 32,000 employees serving customers in more than 170 countries. With a global value chain that includes approximately 450 crop procurement locations, 270 food and feed ingredient manufacturing facilities, 46 innovation centers and the world’s premier crop transportation network, ADM provides products for food, animal feed, industrial and energy uses.

    The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in the second quarter of 2019.

    The deal was coordinated in-house by Senior Counsel EMEA Jan Heiko Köhlbrandt from ADM in Hamburg.
