Supporting the energy transition in Germany: Eversheds Sutherland advises RWE Renewables on a Joint Venture with Northland Power

Eversheds Sutherland has advised RWE Renewables GmbH on a Joint Venture with Northland Power Inc. (NPI). The companies have joined forces to co-develop a 1.3 gigawatts cluster of offshore wind farms in the German North Sea. The three wind farms are expected to start commercial operation between 2026 and 2028. RWE Renewables will hold 51% and Northland Power 49% of the shares in the new Joint Venture.
RWE Renewables, headquartered in Essen, Germany, is a leading global player in renewables and number 2 worldwide in offshore wind.
Northland Power is a Canadian power producer operating clean and green global power infrastructure assets in Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and other selected global jurisdictions. The company is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The RWE inhouse team under the main project leadership of Jutta Dissen (Director Partnerships & Transactions) and legal leadership of Zsuzsanna Sessel-Zsebik (Director Legal) consisted of James Kothanikkel, Aleksandra Vuks (Partnerships & Transactions) and Katja Koch (Legal Counsel, Solingen).
NPI was comprehensively advised by CMS. The notarisation was executed by Dr. Hauschild in Dusseldorf.
