The German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche has again recognised Eversheds Sutherland as a top legal practice for compliance and commercial criminal law. Joos Hellert and David Rieks are again listed among the most renowned lawyers for compliance and commercial criminal law, respectively. Maximilian Findeisen has again been included in the list of top lawyers for compliance law.
Maximilian Findeisen is a Partner in the Corporate/M&A practice group and co-head of Eversheds Sutherland's Dusseldorf office. He advises national and international industrial companies as well as private and institutional investors on all aspects of corporate law with a particular focus on questions of corporate compliance and corporate governance. In addition, he is an established expert for M&A transactions and joint ventures.
Joos Hellert is a Partner in Munich where he heads the German Litigation & Dispute Management practice group. He specialises in advising companies on compliance matters. Moreover, he represents companies in complex court and arbitration proceedings, in particular in an international context, and advises clients regarding distribution and franchise law.
David Rieks is a Counsel in the Litigation & Dispute Management practice group in Hamburg. As a certified lawyer for criminal law, he advises and represents national and international companies regarding all questions of commercial and tax criminal law. He focusses inter alia on the areas of corruption and breach of trust, fraud, insolvency, labour/employment and environmental criminal acts as well as social security, tax, customs and foreign trade offences. He also regularly represents managing directors and executives within the context of commercial and tax offence proceedings.
With regard to crisis advice and sanction risks, Eversheds Sutherland advises in all phases of compliance: from preventive advice on how to avoid criminal and regulatory offence allegations, to the support with internal investigations, to the defence against prosecution and supervisory authorities. The strength in the area of cross-border investigations and proceedings is also reflected in the results: Only one other internationally positioned law firms is represented in both rankings besides Eversheds Sutherland.
For the rankings, Handelsblatt Research Institute (HRI) has asked more than 1,300 individuals from 182 law firms to name their most renowned colleagues for commercial criminal law and compliance. A jury of experts then selected 57 law firms for commercial criminal law with 99 particularly recommended lawyers and 36 law firms for compliance with 56 distinguished lawyers.
Lawyers of Eversheds Sutherland have also been included in many other recent rankings published by WirtschaftsWoche: Tobias Maier is recommended for healthcare law. Marc Schwencke (Dusseldorf) is recommended for real estate law and Steffen Jung (Munich) and Janis Heiliger count among the most renowned lawyers for private construction law. Fabian Volz (Munich), Ralf-Thomas Wittmann and Christian Becker (both Dusseldorf) count among the best lawyers for insurance law. Tobias Maier and Axel Zimmermann (both Munich) are recommended for copyright law. Christian Hilpert (Berlin) is again among Germany's most renowned restructuring lawyers and Anne Deike Riewe (Munich) has been listed for insolvency law for the first time. Alexander Niethammer (Munich) has again been recommended for data protection and Lutz Schreiber (Hamburg) has been listed for IT law. Marco Ferme (Munich) is among the top lawyers for employment and labour law and Martin Bechtold (Munich/Brussels) for anti-trust law.
