WirtschaftsWoche: Eversheds Sutherland is Top Legal Practice for Restructuring

  • Germany

The German magazine WirtschaftsWoche recognised Eversheds Sutherland as top legal practice 2019 in restructuring matters and Christian Hilpert as one of the most distinguished lawyers in this area.

The restructuring practice around Christian Hilpert (Berlin and Munich) advises companies, creditors and insolvency administrators in complex restructurings during times of crisis and insolvency, in refinancing matters as well as transactions in special situations (distressed M&A) and the reorganisation by way of insolvency plans. The practice is particularly strong in implementing the full-service approach while working closely together with other practice groups as well as in providing advice in cross-border crisis situations, for example to the International Air Transport Association IATA during the insolvency proceedings of Air Berlin and Germania.

"This success in WirtschaftsWoche's market survey is a real team achievement and a recognition for the team spirit of our restructuring team and the legal practice's cross-group cooperation which are both significant factors to best support our clients," explains Christian Hilpert. "The award is a well-earned success for our restructuring team and highlights the growing reputation of our legal practice in the German market," adds Alexander Niethammer, Head of Company Commercial at Eversheds Sutherland in Germany.

For the ranking of the most renowned lawyers in the area of restructuring and insolvency law, the Handelsblatt Research Institute (HRI) interviewed more than 1,000 lawyers from over 90 law firms. From this list, an independent jury of experts selected 35 law firms with 53 particularly recommended lawyers for restructuring matters and 39 law firms with 65 lawyers for insolvency law.

Also internationally, Everheds Sutherland counts among the leaders for restructuring matters and insolvency law, and the GRR 100 ranking of the specialist magazine Global Restructuring Review (GRR) lists the legal practice among the top law firms for cross-border restructuring consulting. Just recently, for instance, an international Eversheds Sutherland team with the participation of the German team around Christian Hilpert advised the electronic sector of the US-based guitar manufacturer Gibson which had originally been taken over by Philips in preparing and implementing insolvency measures in over 22 countries.
