  • Ireland
  • General

Irish Revenue have announced that the CDS will be introduced on 2 October 2017. Under the Union Customs Code (“UCC”) all your interaction with Revenue for customs purposes must be done electronically. The CDS will allow traders to use and EU trader portal to apply for and manage customs decisions.

The main features of the CDS highlighted by Revenue are:

  • to allow the electronic processing and storage of applications and authorisations;
  • to allow traders to apply for and manage their customs decisions via a single EU interface;
  • to make it possible for EU customs authorities to consult with each other about the granting and management of authorisations which are valid in more than one Member State;
  • to provide system-to-system access for our existing import, export and transit systems to authorisation data, in order to check the existence and validity of customs decisions.

If you would like any further information on the CDS please feel free to contact a member of our Tax Group.
