Eversheds Sutherland honoured for championing diversity and inclusion

Today, we have been recognised for our commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and in business. We are included on the 2019 OUTstanding LGBT+ Ally Role Model List, which recognises the efforts of Partner in Dispute Resolution and Litigation, Aisling Gannon, as a true leader for inclusiveness.

Perspective is our firm’s LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) and Ally/supporters employee network. We have been honoured for our efforts to provide a support network to all LGBT+ employees. We have also been recognised for encouraging all employees and Partners at the firm to be their true selves at work, building a more unified, cohesive and supportive workforce.

As an avid supporter and ally within Eversheds Sutherland's Perspective network, Aisling will attend an event in London today to represent Eversheds Sutherland, and to celebrate all of the ‘2019 Role Models’, being the LGBT+ businesses and individuals on the 2019 List who are driving positive change for diversity and inclusion in business. In 2018 Perspective collectively challenged all members to ‘Stand Up, Speak Up and Show Up’ – this nomination is a tribute to that positive challenge and initiative.

Since November 2018 Eversheds Sutherland have delivered a number of initiatives to promote inclusiveness including: hosting staff information events to mark  'Transgender Day of Remembrance’; providing ‘Inclusive Leadership’ training across the firm; participating in the OUTstanding Emerging Leaders Forum; launching new policies and guidance booklets for employees; hosting a pre-Pride party in its offices; as well as speaking and sharing personal insights with other OUTstanding businesses to support the collective goal of greater visibility for all LGBT+ efforts. Additionally and notably this year, Eversheds Sutherland Ireland will launch its far-reaching and inclusive ‘Gender Identity and Inclusion in the Workplace’ Policy.

Speaking about this honour, Aisling Gannon said:

“I am truly humbled and honoured to represent Eversheds Sutherland on the 2019 OUTstanding Ally Executive Role Model list. I was inspired to become a supporter and ally of our LGBT+ and supporters’ employee network because of a change in my family circumstances and my own personal experience of having a transgender child. During those initial days and months I received phenomenal support from my colleagues and I experienced first-hand the benefits of having a supportive network of people in the workplace when I needed them. The mission of ‘Perspective’, OUTstanding, and my personal ambition, is to mobilise LGBT+ and supporters to proactively champion and celebrate diversity and inclusion across our offices and in business. I know it can make a real difference to our employees and their families, as it did for me. I am invested, I want to work in an inclusive work environment, I want us to be an inclusive work environment”
