UK Government Suffers Brexit Setback

  • Ireland
  • General

The UK High Court ruled today that the British Prime Minister (Theresa May ) does not have the power to use the royal prerogative to serve an Article 50 notice triggering the UK’s exit from the EU.  If the High Court’s decision is not overturned, Theresa May will need the prior authority of the UK Parliament to trigger the UK’s exit from the EU, and there could be a lengthy period of parliamentary discussions ahead.

The UK Government is expected to appeal the decision.
