Eversheds assists Wits to end outsourcing

  • South Africa

    25-01-2017

In the last quarter of 2015, South Africa experienced wide-spread student and worker protests demanding that all workers employed by companies, to whom universities have outsourced services, be employed directly by universities. The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (Wits) resolved that, subject to any financial and legal constraints, it would employ these workers and effectively stop the practice of outsourcing. During 2016, Eversheds was appointed by Wits to provide the university with labour and commercial advice, assist it with contractual negotiations and manage this process. On 1 January 2017, the first tranche of these workers became employees of Wits. Eversheds and Wits are now working together to progress the next tranche of workers.

For all your outsourcing and insourcing requirements, be it labour or commercial in nature, be sure to use Eversheds.
