COVID-19: Cross-border commuters

  • Switzerland

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Switzerland has made arrangements with its neighbouring countries in the area of social security law as well as tax law regarding cross-border commuters. Due to the opening of borders and the withdrawal of the home office recommendation by the Federal Council, these arrangements will be discontinued or revoked.

It is already known that all agreements with France and Austria are expected to expire on31. August 2020, and the agreements with Germany on 31. December 2020. The termination of the agreements with Italy have not been discussed yet. Due to the unforeseeable development of the pandemic, it is not clear yet whether further agreements will be revoked, remain in force for a longer period of time or be reinstated.

We will inform you in more detail about the developments as well as about your possibilities in a future edition of our newsletter Legal Compass.
