Eversheds Sutherland advises Rampion 2 Joint Venture on an extension of an offshore wind farm

Eversheds Sutherland has advised Rampion Extension Development Ltd, a joint-venture, to develop an offshore windfarm extension in the English Channel.

Eversheds Sutherland’s Real Estate Energy team advised the joint-venture between RWE Renewables, a consortium led by Macquarie, and Enbridge Inc, to lease and develop an extension to the already operational Rampion Offshore Wind Farm. The team advised on the negotiation and subsequent agreement to lease the Rampion Extension site from The Crown Estate.

Improving the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm’s existing capacity

The Agreement for Lease gives rights to develop an extension to the existing 400MW Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, located in the English Channel.

The Rampion Extension, part of the Rampion 2 project, is an expansion of the existing Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, located in the English Channel, which contributes 400MW of generating capacity across 116 turbines.

The Agreement for Lease follows an extensive process of development consultation and consenting exercises, including submitting a Scoping Request to the Planning Inspectorate.

The Eversheds Sutherland team was led by James Trafford, Partner, Real Estate and James Shawe, Principal Associate, Real Estate.

    James Trafford, commented:

“The UK government has set ambitious targets for renewables, aiming to ‘build back greener’ with vast plans that will see all homes in the UK powered by wind. We have been immersed in this sector for many years so it has been fantastic to be at the forefront of this new round of development projects and, in particular, to help the joint-venture to embark on their first steps to expand the existing Rampion wind farm.”

James D’Alessandro, Commercial Manager for the Project, said:

“The signing of the Agreement for Lease with The Crown Estate for the Rampion Extension site is a big step forward in the development of the Rampion 2 project. Rampion Extension Development Ltd  would like to thank Eversheds Sutherland for their help in bringing this agreement to completion. Their expertise and experience in offshore wind has been invaluable to this process.”

Eversheds Sutherland also advised SSE Renewables and RWE on their joint venture to extend the North Falls Offshore Wind Farm.
