Eversheds Sutherland has appointed three lateral Partner hires to its Netherlands practice

Eversheds Sutherland has made three lateral Partner hires to its Netherlands-based practice.

Corporate Partner Jeroen Hoekstra and commercial Partner Benjamin van Kessel join the global legal practice’s Amsterdam office from law firm Nineyards Law, while corporate Partner Elmer Veenman joins the Amsterdam office from De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek.

Jeroen, a founding Partner of Nineyards Law, has over 25 years’ experience advising on various aspects of corporate law and transnational matters. His focus is on joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity transactions, and restructurings. His clients include international and local companies and private equity funds.

Prior to helping to establish Nineyards Law in 2015, Jeroen was an international Partner and co-head of the corporate/M&A group at Baker McKenzie.

Chambers and Partners’ sources have described him as "…smart, fast-reacting and always supportive; he absolutely gives added value and is a great person to work with."

Benjamin, who focuses on the areas of IP/IT, has over 10 years’ experience advising on all aspects of intellectual property, both contentious and non-contentious. Benjamin provides advice on trademarks, domain names, copyrights and design rights. His wider focus is on information technology and commercial law including drafting, negotiating, advisory, contract restructuring, long-term contract termination, and litigation.

Benjamin began his career at Baker McKenzie, moving to Nineyards Law at the end of 2015. According to industry publication, World Trademark Review (WTR), “trademark-heavy transactions are his [Benjamin’s] forte”. He was also tipped by the magazine as being “…one of the cleverest anti-counterfeiting experts in the Netherlands.”

Elmer, a corporate/M&A lawyer, has 12 years' experience advising on mergers and acquisitions and complex corporate transactions. He advises listed companies, large multinationals and private equity on public to private transactions, as well as cross-border transactions, restructurings, joint ventures and relocations. Carve-outs and valuation aspects are a particular focus area in Elmer’s practice.

Elmer has spent the last 12 years at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, sharing his time across Amsterdam, London and New York.

Helen Thomas, managing partner - Europe, Eversheds Sutherland, commented:

“We’re delighted to welcome Jeroen, Benjamin and Elmer on board. Strengthening our client relationships across our European network is an ongoing and significant part of our global strategy. In order to do that, we need to ensure that we continue to build strength in depth within the same jurisdictions in which our key clients operate. These senior appointments further reflect our commitment and determination to ensure that we are successful in this.”

Keri Rees, co-head of global company commercial at Eversheds Sutherland, commented:

“We’re very pleased to welcome, Jeroen, Benjamin and Elmer to both the firm and our global company commercial practice group, the latest in a string of high-level appointments that will further enhance our increasing capability within the Netherlands – a key jurisdiction for global business.”

    Jeroen Hoekstra commented:

“I am very excited to be joining the Corporate/M&A team of Eversheds-Sutherland in the Netherlands and to be part of the firm's vast international network.”

    Benjamin van Kessel added:

“I am thrilled to be part of Eversheds Sutherland’s international network, which offers an ideal platform to handle cross border IP enforcement and IP transactional work. I am also proud to be joining the Dutch IP group of Eversheds Sutherland and look forward to contributing to its further growth.”

    Elmer Veenman commented:

“I am thrilled to become part of Eversheds Sutherland's global Corporate/M&A team with its commitment to service excellence through a solution-oriented approach."

This is the latest in a number of senior appointments to Eversheds Sutherlands Netherlands. The legal practice recently announced the appointment of a new commercial team, led by lateral Partner hires Thera Adam-van Straaten and Olaf van Haperen, who joined from Kneppelhout earlier this year – bolstering the existing team’s capability within the areas of IP, IT and data protection.
