04-09-2018
Eversheds Sutherland has welcomed pensions heavyweight Eric Bergamin as head of its Netherlands pensions practice.
Eric joins along with pension specialists Marthe van den Broek and Arjan van’t Zelfde from Bergamin Pensioenrechtadvies BV, a boutique pensions advisory firm established by Eric in 2005 which has been acquired by Eversheds Sutherland.
Eric’s focus is on pension-related aspects of national and international mergers and acquisitions. He also provides advice to companies and pension providers, including sectoral and corporate pension funds, on a wide range of matters.
The team has enjoyed working with the global Eversheds Sutherland pensions group since 2015.
The move reflects the continued investment by Eversheds Sutherland in Europe, having integrated the Dutch firm Eversheds Sutherland B.V in January this year – now known as Eversheds Sutherland Netherlands.
The last 12 months has seen a significant period of European growth and expansion for the firm including:
- launch of its Dusseldorf office, its fourth office opening in Germany
- office launches in Luxembourg, Moscow and St Petersburg
- Lateral Partner and team hires in
- Germany: real estate Partner Dr Stefanie Fuerst; banking & finance Partner Dr. Stefan Schramm; employment and labour Partners, Marco Ferme; and Dr Nina Springer
- France: real estate Partner Eric Métais and private equity Partner Sebastien Pontillo;
- Luxembourg: financial services Partner Viviane de Moreau;
- Russia: Andrey Grachev – new Head of Tax Practice – and team; and
- Netherlands: real estate Partner Natascha Geraedts.
Ian Gray, Chairman of Eversheds Sutherland Europe said:
“Our clients want strength in depth with specialists who are connected to both local and international markets. We are committed to growing in key jurisdictions across continental Europe and the Netherlands is one of those. Eric and his team joining us, alongside other recent investments, demonstrates that we are implementing our strategy.”
Francois Barker, Head of Pensions and Benefits Practice for the UK and Europe said:
“Eric is one of the most prominent pensions advisers in the Netherlands. The formalisation of this relationship will further enhance the service and expertise we currently deliver to our clients, as well as create a broader local and international contacts network from which they can draw.”
Eric Bergamin added:
“We’re very pleased with this move. Having known and worked with the Eversheds Sutherlands pensions group for several years, our teams are a natural fit and will provide both an enhanced national and international platform from which to advise our clients.”
