Eversheds Sutherland continues its global expansion strategy with the opening of its Düsseldorf office, its fourth German office and 63rd worldwide. The office opens today, 1 August 2017, building on the combination between legacy firms Eversheds and Sutherland and the launch of Eversheds Harry Elias in Singapore and Brunei Darussalam earlier this year.
Having acquired leading Düsseldorf-based firm Grooterhorst & Partners, the office launches with three partners: Dr Johannes Grooterhorst, Marc Christian Schwencke, Ralf-Thomas Wittman and a team of eleven lawyers. The office will initially focus on Real Estate and Insurance, with plans to expand to become a full-service practice in due course.
Johannes Grooterhorst is a leading real estate lawyer with more than 30 years’ experience. He specialises in large-scale retail projects and is also an advisory board member of the German Council of Shopping Centres. Marc Christian Schwencke, also a real estate lawyer, specialises in construction and planning law whilst Ralf-Thomas Wittmann focuses on insurance law and conflict management.
Lee Ranson, Co-CEO Eversheds Sutherland, said:
“We are committed to the strategic expansion of our global platform. Our launch in Düsseldorf, an important centre of corporate activity and the industrial heartland of Germany, is a significant milestone in the rollout of that strategy. I'm delighted to welcome our new colleagues to the firm."
Ian Gray, Executive Partner (Client Strategy), Eversheds Sutherland added:
“Many of our global clients have their German businesses in and around Düsseldorf which makes it a logical investment for us as we develop further in Europe. We go where our clients need us. Düsseldorf fits that, as well being of strategic significance for international trade and German industry, and an important insurance centre."
Dr Matthias Heisse, Managing Partner of Eversheds Sutherland in Germany, commented:
“We are very pleased to have attracted such a well-established and experienced team and we warmly welcome our new colleagues. Our German practice has recently made significant progress, in particular in the areas of M&A, real estate, antitrust law and conflict management. The opening of the Düsseldorf office adds momentum to these positive developments as we strengthen our position in the German market.”
Dr Johannes Grooterhorst, added:
“We have followed the positive development of Eversheds Sutherland in Germany and worldwide with great interest. With its wide range of services, the international award-winning real estate practice and its strength in insurance law, Eversheds Sutherland was a natural choice for our firm.”
