Eversheds Sutherland has bolstered its corporate insurance and regulatory capability with the hire of a two-partner heavyweight team from Dentons.

Martin Mankabady and Adriana Cotter join from the law firm’s City office.

Martin is recognised as a leading practitioner in his field and was Global Chair of Dentons' Insurance group, with responsibility for implementing strategy and leveraging the firm’s global reach and resource. His particular experience is in M&A, joint ventures and corporate finance. Martin also regularly works on reorganisations, start-ups, commercial and regulatory matters in the insurance sector.

Adriana’s main areas of focus are on M&A, commercial and regulatory work for UK and international insurance and reinsurance companies, including the run-off sector. She advises on a range of non-contentious matters, such as group reorganisations, start-ups, distribution arrangements and structuring (re)insurance policies.

Hugo Laing, corporate Partner, Eversheds Sutherland, said:

“Martin’s and Adriana’s arrival couldn’t come at a more exciting time for our global corporate insurance offering. The particular sector-focused experience and knowledge that they bring add significant bench strength to our corporate insurance and non-contentious insurance practices, and furthers the growth of our international financial services, M&A and corporate transactions capabilities by feeding into our wider strategies for these priority areas. We’re thrilled to welcome them on board.”

John Pruitt, Practice Group Leader, Insurance, Eversheds Sutherland, US, said:

“We are proud to welcome Martin and Adriana to the team. They are well known and respected on both sides of the Atlantic and their arrival reinforces the firm’s commitment to offering a truly global corporate and regulatory insurance practice to our clients. We’re very much looking forward to working with them.”

    Martin said:

“Eversheds Sutherland holds a formidable reputation in the corporate insurance market, so it was a natural choice for me. I’m very much looking forward to joining the team, along with Adriana, and working closely with its international capability to help grow and enhance its current client offering.”

    Adriana said:

“This is a wonderful opportunity, being able to continue to work alongside Martin but also to leverage our sector knowledge and experience to help benefit Eversheds Sutherland’s global capability. There are a number of elements here that we can capitalise on to meet the ever-increasing demands of a particularly competitive market, and I’m looking forward to working together and doing so.”

Eversheds Sutherland’s latest investment into its corporate insurance and M&A capability comes hot on the heels of the arrival of banking Partner Christopher Williams who joined the global law firm from magic circle firm, Linklaters. The firm also welcomed Peter A. Ivanick, who joined its New York-based Insurance Practice Group as a Partner, further strengthening Eversheds Sutherland’s restructuring, bankruptcy and insurance insolvency capabilities.

Additionally, the US Insurance Practice Group promoted several attorneys this year – Ronald D. Coenen Jr., Kevin Finnegan and Sean D. Wissman to Partner and Alexander F.L. Sand and John Allen Zumpetta to Counsel.
