    Boosting our Tax Practice

Eversheds Sutherland has further strengthened its Tax Practice with the appointment of Partner Paul Beausang as Head of Real Estate Tax. Paul will work alongside David Jervis, Global Co-Head of Tax and Cathryn Vanderspar, Head of London Tax in the real estate tax arena.

Paul joins Eversheds Sutherland this week from Morgan Lewis & Bockius, having previously been London Head of Tax at K&L Gates.

Paul is highly experienced in real estate tax structuring and transactional execution; his expertise will enhance tax support for the Real Estate Practice in delivering high-end tax structuring and transaction advice to real estate clients

Additionally Paul’s practice includes corporate tax and inward investment and permanent establishment issues, debt financing and structuring, and M&A tax negotiations. Since 2013, he has advised in the structured transactions market and has been at the forefront of the tax structuring of several bespoke RMBS structures and the intersection of real estate and hybrid bond structuring.

David Jervis, Global Co-Head of Tax, commented:

“I am delighted to welcome Paul as Head of Real Estate Tax to increase support for our strong team of existing real estate tax associates. With prospective tax changes potentially impacting UK real estate holdings, it is important that we have the additional Partner bandwidth to fully and proactively support our clients. Growing our real estate tax offering has been key to this and I am confident that Paul’s appointment will help us achieve that goal.”

David Watkins, Global Co-Head of Real Estate, commented:

“The depth and market knowledge of UK real estate structuring offered by our Real Estate Practice is a great match for Paul’s strength and expertise. I look forward to working with him on developing cutting-edge, bespoke structures for our clients that will help reshape the commercial real estate market.”

Paul’s appointment follows a number of lateral hires made by Eversheds Sutherland in recent weeks including competition Partner Rod Lambert, corporate claims Partner Louise Bland and employment Partner Sophie White.
