Providing a pathway for aspiring lawyers

Eversheds Sutherland is pleased have been awarded first place in the Large Apprentice Employer of the Year category at the BPP Apprentice of the Year Awards 2020.

The BPP Apprentice of the Year annual awards recognises the apprentices and employers who have gone the extra mile throughout the delivery or work during an Apprenticeship.

Eversheds Sutherland, which became one of the first UK law firms to offer the Trailblazer Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship scheme in 2016, was nominated by Apprentice Solicitor Lauren Standley. Lauren sits in the firm’s Birmingham Real Estate team, led by real estate Partner Iftkhar Ahmed.

    Iftkhar Ahmed commented:

“Lauren, like all of our apprentices, is client-centred, driven and thriving in an environment that offers numerous opportunities to grow, learn new skills and build a strong network. The Apprenticeship scheme broadens access to the legal profession for young and talented aspiring lawyers. I wish all our cohorts continued success in the remaining years of their apprenticeship.”

    Lauren Standley commented:

“Eversheds Sutherland offers a wealth of training to ensure that its apprentices are highly skilled and have the tools to tackle various legal tasks and take on new opportunities. My team is friendly and approachable and I find that there is no divide between those in a more senior position and those who are junior. The partners treat you as equals and are more than happy to share their knowledge.

“I am in contact with my line manager daily to collaborate on projects, discuss my workload and ensure that I am on top of my studies. My supervisor has been incredibly supportive at exam time by making sure I have time to revise, while the team are available to help with any queries I have regarding the degree side of my apprenticeship. I also receive practice-specific updates which help me to keep up with the quickly evolving legal world.”

Eversheds Sutherland’s Solicitor Apprenticeships programme, operated in conjunction with BPP University Law School, is a six-year programme of work-based learning and part-time study. It offers students the chance to qualify as a solicitor via a route that is alternative to traditional, full-time university.
