The Lawyer Awards: Eversheds Sutherland wins ‘Real Estate Team of the Year’ for third time
  • Global

Eversheds Sutherland (International) has won ‘Real Estate Team of the Year’ at The Lawyer Awards for the third time in five years.

The awards, which bring together more than 1300 private practice lawyers and senior corporate counsel, celebrate and reward best practice and excellence across the whole legal industry.

More than 70 judges across private practice, in-house, and the Bar debated entries from a record number of law firms and companies to narrow down the shortlist for the 28 categories.

Lesley Wan, former Corporate Real Estate Counsel for Lloyds Banking Group's commercial real estate business, chaired the judging panel for the Real Estate category.

Eversheds Sutherland’s real estate team captured judges’ attention by showcasing the technical expertise applied in its involvement in The Mayfield development in Manchester – Europe’s largest urban regeneration scheme.

The scheme is a circa £1 billion GDV development of a 23 acre site next to Manchester Piccadilly Station.

David Watkins, co-head of global real estate and planning at Eversheds Sutherland, comments:

"Rebalancing of the UK economy is one of the greatest opportunities for the country. We're delighted to be recognised for our work on not only one of the UK's biggest and most complex deals, but also a deal that's a small step in making the Northern Powerhouse a reality."

Nicholas Bartlett, real estate Partner at Eversheds Sutherland (International), who led the winning team, comments:

“Winning this award is a source of great pride for our team and demonstrates our ability to deliver on the largest and most complex real estate transactions.”
