Eversheds cleans up on significant waste acquisition

  • United Kingdom

Law firm Eversheds has advised private equity-backed waste management company Impetus on the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of UK waste transfer station operator, T. Shea Limited.

Impetus, which private equity house Agilitas backed in 2013, is one of the largest waste management companies in the North East of England.

Impetus has built Europe’s largest commercial and industrial waste processing facility at its site in Teesside. The facility has capacity to process over 500,000 tonnes a year of commercial, industrial and municipal waste, which is received through Impetus’ network of transfer stations.

The Eversheds team was led by Partner Charles Reynard, assisted by Senior Associate David Milne and Associate Sophia Leavett.

    Charles Reynard commented:

“This is a significant acquisition for Impetus who are an innovative and dynamic organisation with a far sighted vision for opportunities in the waste sector.”

Malcolm Ward, chief executive of Impetus, said:

"This acquisition provides a significant increase in volume for the group’s waste transfer station network and provides an important expansion of Impetus’s geographical footprint. That means that Impetus is extremely well positioned to help drive the move from landfill to sustainable solutions for waste for commercial businesses, as well as local authorities. We would like to thank the Eversheds team for their support and guidance in helping Impetus complete this matter successfully."
