Eversheds comment: Accountability for targeting women on boards a win-win for UK plc
- United Kingdom
12-08-2013
Commenting in light of news that financial firms are to set targets for women on boards, Aleen Gulvanessian, partner at global law firm Eversheds, says:
"The concept of creating accountability for targeting women on boards is interesting as it is not the same as stipulating a quota, which can create difficulties. It will mean that Nomination Committees have to consider how to ensure women are coming through the ranks to make it to the most senior positions. That is no bad thing. If it successfully helps focus efforts on retaining women within companies so that there is a good pick of female talent to elect at senior management level, it would be great for women and good for business."
