Eversheds comment: China/UK trade partnership should be a win-win for both parties

  • United Kingdom

Commenting on the UK's trade delegation to China, Stephen Kitts, Asia managing partner of global law firm Eversheds, says:

"There are clear signs that the fine words between the politicians in the UK and China are now being followed by some tangible actions by the corporate business community. The interest of Chinese businesses in investing in the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station and the investment by a Chinese state owned enterprise in Manchester Airport augers well for the future. There is something in each of these projects for both parties - China is increasingly outward facing and wants access to the West's technology and engineering prowess and the UK is keen to both attract investment capital and tap into the burgeoning service and consumer markets in China. It should be win-win provided that both sides follow through on their statements of good intent."
